My name is Jason Wickersty. I like history. I also like fonts, especially fonts from the 19th century.
About 10 years ago, I started looking for the font you see in nearly every book printed during the 1850s and 1860s. I couldn’t find it anywhere.
After years of searching, and a history degree and a wedding later, I decided to make my own fonts. I went into the basement and came out a year later with the Printer’s Type Case.
I hope you like it.
In the world outside of the basement (that’s where the computer is, if you’re curious), I’m a National Park Ranger at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, NY, which is a part of Gateway National Recreation Area. I’ve been published in Hallowed Ground, Military Collector and Historian, and was a contributing writer to New Jersey goes to War: Biographies of 150 New Jerseyans Caught Up in the Struggle of the Civil War.
I’m also an avid student of Irish music and language, so forgive any stray phrases as Gaeilge sprinkled here and there.
